Course program
Basic elements of statistics applied to forest mensuration. Introduction to forest sampling, objectives, sampling design, sample size. Main forest mensuration instruments: diameter measuring instruments; tree height measuring instruments. Single tree measurements: diameter and basal area, tree height, fitting height curves. Tree volume, tree volume tables and equations. Measurements of stands: number of trees; basal area; diameter distribution; mean diameter; mean heght; top height. Stand volume: volume estimation with sample plots; volume estimation from felled sample trees; estimation with yield tables. Relascopes and prisms.
