climate and climate change in the urban environment; definition of urban
eocsystem; definition of green infrastructures; types of green areas in the
urban environment: urban microclimates, causes of tree decline and
solutions; new types of urban green areas: roof gardens, green walls, rain
gardens and low impact development; technical solutions to increase
benefits of green areas in changing cities.
Methodologies and tools to mitigate the impact of climate change
Knowledge acquired:
Roles and functions of urban green areas in a climate change scenario.
Competences acquired:
knowledge of: the effects of green areas on urban microclimate;
techniques to maintain tree healthy and functional; types of traditional
and novel urban green areas.
Skills acquired (at the end of the course):
Capacity of analyzing the typical disturbances imposed by human
activities and climate change on urban ecosystems and to plan effective
green infrastructure for changing cities.
