Course program
Unit 1- Introduction: concepts and definitions; forest statistics. Forest environment: methods of analysis of relevant environment parameters. Italian forest landscape.
Unit 2 - Forest trees: life- processes: regeneration system, growth, ageing and death. Ecological characteristics of mainly forest species and ecotypes.
Unit 3 - Woods: stand structure, death, regeneration and evolutive dynamics. Propagations strategies of forest trees.
Unit 4 - Silvicultural system: High forest system. Coppice system. Intermediate cuttings (thinnings). Conversion system.
Unit 5 – Elements of forest nursery production; forest tree plantation.
Field activity: visits in different forest types and participation to thinnings activities.
